A two year old Nigerian boy was found in the streets almost starved to death after being abandoned by his family after they accused him of being a witch. The little boy was riddled with worms and described as being barely alive. Being abandoned because of witch accusations are not uncommon in Nigeria, there are thousands of children being abandoned, starved and mistreated because of witchcraft.
The little boy had been surviving in no more than a few scraps of food for the last 8 months. Strangers would throw some food in his direction and the little boy would pick at what he could find. He was not going to survive much longer, until a Danish rescue worker found him, wrapped him in a blanket and took him to the nearest hospital.
Anja, the aid worker named the little boy Hope. She has set up the African Children’s Aid Education and Development Foundation. She is working to help more children like Hope who have been accused of witchcraft.
Hope was given daily blood transfusions, proper nourishment and medicine to remove the worms that he was so riddled with and his recovery has been amazing. After finding Hope, Anja petitioned for help online and within two days over $1 million in donations have poured in from online donations. Everyone wanted to help the little boy in what ever way they could.
